Exhausted by the daily grind, we went looking for a quick getaway destination to rejuvenate our body and soul. We eventually settled for Batam, which is a mere stone’s throw away. Due to the limited time we had, a luxury resort offering exciting activities, exquisite amenities and picturesque surroundings sounded like just the plan.

The Stay

Situated near the Nongsa Ferry Terminal, we gave ourselves a treat in the form of the luxurious 5 star Montigo Resort. Upon reaching the terminal, we were quickly whisked away by a private shuttle that brought us directly to the resort that was only a few minutes away. We were greeted by the staff with a glass of refreshing iced tea while they proceeded to check us into our 3-stories tall villa. What really excited us was the on-site buggy rides that were just a phone call away, ferrying us from site to site throughout our stay. We must admit that while riding the buggy, we liked to occasionally pretend that we were being chased after by dinosaurs, just like in Jurassic Park!

The Food

Be spoilt for choice at TADD’S with their wide array of delicacies including western favourites and local delights. The Nongsa Nasi Goreng comprising of prawns, beef saté, fried chicken, fried egg, vegetables, fried rice and crackers is in our opinion  the best choice for those of you who wants to have a taste of everything. Complete the meal with a glass of peach and mint mocktail, a refreshing treat to perk yourself up during the sunny afternoon.

We recommend the in-villa dining service where you can experience a private BBQ session  or steamboat dinner under the star studded skies. It’ll make a truly enjoyable dining experience to indulge in while lounging in your private pool or rooftop terrace with friends or loved ones.

The Play

If you’re looking for some water adventures, look no further as Montigo offers a good selection of watersports ranging from jetskiing, banana boating, wake boarding and even snorkeling at the nearby Putri Island. Surely you can find one that suits the adventurous soul in you.

For those of you who are more keen on a laid back excursion, there’s also firefly sighting and mangrove tours which are rarely experienced back home.

How about an artistic soul you can’t wait to unleash? Try attending a batik painting session where you can learn the traditional Indonesian art of fabric dying. We heard that you can bring your masterpiece home as well. There really isn’t any souvenir better than this!

To finish off the trip, seek respite at the spa and allow the masseuse to take away all the sorenes from the day’s activities. We personally tried out the Indonesian and Montigo massages and immersed ourselves in the soothing environment. This comes highly recommended if you are looking for a recharge before your trip comes to an end.

Lastly, don’t forget to visit the photo points for some take home shots!
