With Good Friday just around the corner, it’s time to treat yourself to a short respite over the long weekend. If you’re feeling the urge to indulge yourself, here are some drool-worthy hotels that are an experience in itself.

  1. Giraffe Manor

In a small suburb in Nairobi, Kenya, lies a lodging that brings the zoo literally to your doorstep. More specifically, it houses the last few Rothschild giraffes in all of Kenya. Mornings just won’t be the same with these mischievous inhabitants sticking their long necks in for some leftovers from your breakfast table. They also make for very Instagrammable OOTD props, having been featured in a Harper’s BAZAAR editorial photoshoot as well. All profits from the manor fund the giraffe breeding program to reintroduce it to the wild. Being able to travel and give back to society at the same time? Count us in.

  1. Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

Housed within gorgeous glass igloos, spend a night being blanketed by the stars while witnessing the Aurora Borealis right before your very eyes. Boasting a large smoke sauna, reindeers, husky safaris, and activities such as skiing and ice fishing, experience a winter that is a world apart from tropical Singapore. This accommodation is only available between August and April, during the northern lights season, so add it to your bucket list!

  1. Taj Lake Palace

Remember the hype over marble (that’s apparently still going strong)? This marble oasis in the middle of a lake will certainly keep you on trend. Surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains, the decorative gilt molding and sculptural finesse transports you back to the time of royalty and classic enchantment. Be sure to check out The Chandra Prakash Suite, which means Lustre of the Moon, where the Maharaja held court in that very same room in the 1930s.

  1. The Library Hotel

Bibliophiles rejoice. All ten floors in this hotel are designed according to a major category in the Dewey Decimal System, with each room taking on a sub category (Erotic Literature anyone?). There are as many as 6,000 books littered throughout the guest rooms and communal spaces. Just steps away from the New York Public Library and the Grand Central Terminal, it’s an accommodation that is book-worthy itself.

  1. South Beach Hotel

If you’d rather save the hassle of travelling, consider a staycation right here in sunny Singapore. Conceptualised by Phillippe Starck (remember the Juicy Salif lemon squeezer?), the 654-room designer hotel is filled with quirky furniture true to its namesake. The hotel also has eco-friendly nuances such as rooftop sky gardens, solar panelling and tieref green canopies to harvest rainwater that is in abundance on our island.

There’s something captivating about crossing the seas and falling in love with a completely different landscape. Hopefully these suggestions will excite the wanderer in you to explore what the world has to offer.
